20 years old, Huw had no work experience and his severe anxiety issues were causing his confidence levels to be at an all-time low. No career aspirations and a lack direction; when Huw met Helen, his coach at MyGo, he found a strong mentor figure to offer him the right guidance and support he needed.
Utilising MyGo’s core employability training courses (MyPath, MyCV & MyInterview) along with linking Huw with local support provider, Talent Match, Huw’s confidence and employability skills began to emerge.
Helen then worked with Talent Match to secure Huw an initial work experience trial as an introductory step into the working world. After being successfully accepted for the placement at Active Garden for 4 weeks, Huw had worked himself up an appetite for finding work and progressing his career.
With his new-found skills and experience Huw worked his way through group screening and interview session, alongside 150 other MyGo customers, for brand new job vacancies with B&M. Huw received 1-2-1 preparation with his coach Helen, the MyGo trainers and additional advice from MyGo’s Employer Relationship Managers for this process.
Out of the 150 other young people fighting for a role, Huw was one of 48 successful candidates offered a permanent role at the newly opened store on Carr Street in Ipswich.
“Before MyGo I was feeling constantly nervous and frustrated” Huw said. “I just wasn’t getting through to interviews. The work experience and training MyGo offered built up my confidence and made me job ready.”
Helen, Huw’s personal coach at MyGo said: “Huw greatly lacked confidence and was very shy – he was unsure about what kind of career he was looking for. I’m proud of how far Huw has come, from completing MyGo courses, doing local work experience and finally moving into employment, he has a bright future ahead of him.”
