How it all started:

All the way back in October 2015 B&M approached MyGo after having been continually disappointed with other recruitment companies. They were recruiting for their Copdock – Ipswich store. MyGo provided a dedicated Employer Relationship Manager to support B & M - which didn’t go without its challenges but blossomed into a budding relationship.

Fast-forward to 2016: On Tuesday 2nd of August B&M informed us they were going to be opening a brand new mega-store in Stowmarket within a month, and they needed 60 employees ASAP.

Our competent Employer Relationship Manager team got right on the case. Negotiating with the MyGo coach team, the ERM’s reviewed batches of customers from different coach’s case-loads, analysing the talents and abilities of each customer put forward for a role.

After a thorough candidate assessment process not unlike what you’d expect to see on The Apprentice, the ERM’s set up a Screening Session the very next day at our Ipswich centre for B&M to attend. Around 100 MyGo customers attended the full day of sessions. A second Screening day was held in our Stowmarket centre on 4th August, hosted for additional customers unable to attend the Ipswich event.

Starting on the 4th August the 80 successful candidates from the screening sessions progressed to the interview stage, held within the Ipswich centre. Full training rooms, presentation areas, 1-2-1 and group meeting rooms were provided along with full access to digital displays with speakers for presentations & demonstrations.

On the following day, another Interview day was held in the Stowmarket centre for the successful customers’ from the Stowmarket screening day.

By the end of the second interview day B&M had found their full 60 requested employees, all of whom ready to start work straight away. The roles covered were for Retail Assistants, Warehouse Workers, Cashiers, Stock-Replenishers & Cleaners, along with more senior roles including two Supervisors & one Floor Manager. The contract hours ranged from full-time, 45 hour contracts to 12 hour contracts.

Employee Inductions

Whilst the rest of the new Stowmarket store was being finalised B&M hosted a full, two-day induction for all 80 of their new employees. This included full access to the Ipswich MyGo centre, training rooms, meeting rooms, presentations areas, a work area, discussion tables, computers and tablets along with a fully catered lunch for both days. The new employees took part in a range of team building tasks and activities ensuring they were fully prepared to start work for the store’s grand opening.

The new Stowmarket B&M store opened up on 5th September, with over 80% of staff being previous MyGo customers. MyGo are now the exclusive recruiter for the entire B&M franchise in Suffolk.
